BRASSICA 2017

Welcome to the 7th International Symposium on Brassica

On behalf of the International Society of Horticultural Science (ISHS), the Group of Genetics, Breeding and Biochemistry of Brassicas (MBG-CSIC) is pleased to invite scientists with an interest in brassicas to this Symposium, which will be held in Pontevedra (Galicia-Spain).

This Symposium will cover studies on many Brassica species, including important crops used as vegetables, edible oils, forages and raw materials, for obtaining bioactive compounds. The meeting is aimed at scientists working in a wide range of topics within the 'Brassica world', including diversity studies, resistance to stresses, or food technology. Over the last years, advances in plant biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology have greatly improved our understanding of plant physiology. In this regard, various 'omics' technologies enable qualitative and quantitative monitoring of the abundance of various biological molecules in a high-throughput manner, and thus allow the determination of their variation between different biological states on a global scale. For this reason, 'omics' studies will be a section of special relevance. The meeting will provide an excellent platform for participants to disseminate their progresses and to facilitate research exchange.

The symposium will be hosted in the amiable small town of Pontevedra which we think will be an excellent venue for this event. Pontevedra, a city with a long maritime and trading tradition, boasts one of the largest and most elegant historic quarters in the whole of Galicia. Its old town is the second largest 'old town' in Galicia, only after Santiago de Compostela. Pontevedra was on the route of the Camino de Santiago (Way of Saint James), namely its southern or 'Portuguese' branch. Nowadays, Pontevedra has evolved into one of the most accessible cities in the world and has been awarded with international prizes for its urban quality, like the European prize 'Intermodes' in Brussels in 2013, the 'ONU-Habitat' prize in Dubai in 2014 and the 'Excellence Prize' of the Center for Active Design in New York in 2015.

We look forward to seeing you in Pontevedra.

Abstracts and papers have to be submitted via the ISHS online submission tool.

A valid ISHS user account for 2017 is required in order to submit an abstract. So, if you are not ISHS member yet, please proceed to www.actahort.org/members/newmember first, register and pay to activate your user account prior to submitting. An abstract in English, limited to 200-300 words in a single paragraph, is required in all cases. The abstract should contain a concise but comprehensive statement of the problem and results. The title and the abstract will be freely available on the ISHS website and should be considered an advertisement for the paper as it may be all that most viewers will read. Thus, it should be carefully and accurately written. Your abstract will be sorted and arranged to organize the program by the keywords you proposed in the abstract submission.

Proceedings guidelines

All oral speakers must submit a manuscript for the Acta Horticulturae. Authors of posters are welcome to submit their manuscript for Acta Horticulturae but posters cannot be published as such. Acta Horticulturae is a peer reviewed series, covering mainly the proceedings of ISHS Symposia and the International Horticultural Congress. All Acta Horticulturae articles are available online at www.actahort.org. Papers should be prepared following the Acta Horticulturae author guidelines.
